MEET THE FOUNDER
Pediatric occupational therapist, early childhood specialist, creator of OT Practice—and a mom who understands that family life rarely looks like a therapy textbook.
My story ↓PROFESSIONAL EXPERTISE. A PARENT’S HEART.
I’m Ruslana Nurmatova, MS, OTR/L, a pediatric occupational therapist with approximately six years of experience supporting young children and their families. I earned my master’s degree in occupational therapy in 2020 and have worked in school-based early childhood services since 2021.
My professional focus is children from birth through age five, especially preschoolers who need support with sensory processing, fine-motor development, feeding, handwriting readiness, play, school participation, and everyday independence.
I created OTPractice.us, LLC to make trustworthy developmental information easier for families to understand—and much easier to use in real life.
BACKGROUND & TRAINING
Clinical knowledge matters. So does knowing how to translate it into one realistic next step for a busy family.
Graduate education completed in 2020, with a foundation in development, participation, assessment, and evidence-informed intervention.
Supporting preschool children in natural learning environments and collaborating with families, teachers, and educational teams.
Advanced professional development in understanding sensory processing and building practical supports for routines and participation.
Training related to the sensory, motor, behavioral, and developmental foundations that can affect a child’s comfort with food.
Special interest in cutting, pre-writing, grasp, visual-motor skills, self-care, classroom access, and learning through play.
Professional recommendations are shaped by both clinical reasoning and a parent’s understanding of real schedules, emotions, and family priorities.
MY APPROACH
I don’t believe childhood should feel like one long therapy session. The most meaningful progress often happens when an activity is enjoyable, the environment supports success, and the skill connects to something the child genuinely wants or needs to do.
Behavior, sensory needs, motor skills, communication, emotions, and the environment are connected.
A child’s interests and existing abilities are the best starting place for building something new.
Strategies should fit naturally into meals, dressing, play, preschool, and community life.
Progress matters—but so do curiosity, confidence, imagination, and the relationship with the adults who care.
WHY I CREATED OT PRACTICE
Parents are often handed complicated terminology, scattered advice, or activities that require too much time and equipment. OT Practice was created to offer something different: practical explanations, playful resources, and thoughtfully designed products that help parents understand both the “why” and the “how.”
Every guide, course, book, and article begins with the same question: Will this make everyday participation easier, more meaningful, or more joyful for a child and family?
